“การต่อสู้เพื่อประชาธิปไตยโดยสันติวิธี”


ในช่วงสองสามสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา รัฐบาลไทยและกลไกของรัฐบาล ได้พยายามที่จะโยนความผิดให้ผมสำหรับความรุนแรงที่เกิดขึ้นในระหว่างการประท้วงในทางการเมืองในประเทศไทยเมื่อเร็วๆนี้ ยิ่งกว่านั้น ผมถูกกล่าวหาอย่างไม่เป็นธรรมว่าเป็นผู้สนับสนุนและเห็นด้วยกับการใช้ความรุนแรงเพื่อบรรลุเป้าหมายทางการเมือง


ก่อนอื่น ผมขอปฎิเสธข้อกล่าวหาข้างต้นอย่างสิ้นเชิง ตลอดชีวิตของผม ผมเคารพในสันติวิธี เสรีภาพและความเท่าเทียมกัน ผมทำในสิ่งที่ผมพูด แม้ว่าผมได้ให้กำลังใจกระบวนการเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตยนี้ตลอดหลายสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา ผมได้เรียกร้องให้พี่น้องประชาชนชาวไทยต่อสู้เพื่อประชาธิปไตยผ่านทางวิดีโอและทางโทรศัพท์ ผมได้ย้ำตลอดมาว่า การรเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตยนี้ต้องป็นไปด้วยสันติและกระบวนการต่อสู้ของประชาชนจะไม่ใช้ความรุนแรง พี่น้องประชาชนนับหมื่นนับแสนได้ตอบสนองข้อเรียกร้องและได้พากันชุมนุมประท้วงอย่างสงบและสันติเป็นเวลาหลายสัปดาห์เพื่อเรียกร้องให้ประชาธิปไตยที่แท้จริงกลับคืนมาสู่ประเทศไทย


ผมขอเรียนย้ำต่อพี่น้องชาวไทยว่าการต่อสู้เพื่อเรียกร้องประชาธิปไตยของเราจะต้องไม่ใช้วิถีของความรุนแรง ผมไม่สามารถสนับสนุนการใช้ความรุนแรง ผมขอพูดอย่างชัดเจนว่า เราจะไม่ใช้อาวุธในการต่อสู้เพื่อให้ได้มาซึ่งประชาธิปไตย เราต้องสร้างอนาคตของพวกเราผ่านความเข้มแข็งทางความคิดและหลักการอันถูกต้องของพวกเรา และพวกเราต้องอดทนและวางเฉยต่อการยั่วยุต่างๆจากทางภาครัฐ


ผมขอเรียกร้องให้คนไทยที่รักสันติทุกคนให้ผนึกกำลังเพื่อบรรลุถึงความปรองดองของคนในชาติและประชาธิปไตยที่แท้จริง ตามที่ผมเคยพูดไว้เราได้ถอยหลังจากการเผชิญหน้าไปหนึ่งก้าว และเราจะไม่ยอมยุติการดำเนินการเพื่อให้ได้มาซึ่งระบอบประชาธิปไตยของไทย แม้เราถูกหยุดยั้งโดยภาครัฐงานของพวกเราก็จะไม่หยุด เพราะเราเชื่อมั่นว่าการต่อสู้เพื่อประชาธิปไตยนั้นคือการต่อสู้เพื่อสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง และในท้ายที่สุดนี้ ผมมีความมั่นใจว่าพลังของพี่น้องประชาชนจะต้องชนะและมีชัยด้วยแนวทางสันติ

Bangkok Post: Thaksin backs peaceful protest

Outlawed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has denied ever supporting the use of violence by his followers in the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to achieve his political resurrection.

He said in a statement issued on Tuesday he would continue using peaceful means to bring ''true democracy'' to the country.

Thaksin said the Thai government was trying to blame him for the riots during the anti-government protest by his supporters in mid-April.

The self-exiled politician said he was unfairly accused of supporting violence to achieve his political objectives.

In the statement, Thaksin denied all charges made by the government and said he had, throughout his life, respected peaceful means, freedom and equality.

Thaksin said he had given his support to Thai people through phone- and video-link speeches in the past several weeks, and that he had repeatedly told them that they must not resort to violence.

Thaksin reiterated to his supporters that they must not use weapons to fight for democracy, but should build the future with strong beliefs and a righteous principles.

He urged them to be tolerant and pay no attention to the government's ''provocative measures''.

He also asked all peace-loving Thais to work together to bring about reconciliation and democracy in the country.

Thaksin said his supporters would not stop the fight for democracy, and expressed confidence that they would emerge victorious through peaceful means.

Earlier, fugitive UDD core member Jakrapob Penkair said the red-shirts will use new tactics to topple the Democrat-led coalition government and they may include violence using weapons, .

Mr Jakrapob, who went into hiding to evade an arrest warrant for inciting unrest in mid-April, made the threat in a telephone interview from an undisclosed location to a foreign news agency.

The red-clad group wanted a fresh general election so a democratically elected government could be put in place, he said. They would use violent methods if necessary to achieve this.
